Drawn to the creative arts but struggling to make a living off your passion? This workshop is just the right antidote for you. Our first artist-in-residence from Glasgow will be joining forces with a local creative to train and energise the up-and-coming wave of creatives and aid them in reaching their goals.
This workshop will delve into the ingredients required to successfully make a living from one’s art. We’ll be showing you how to start completely from scratch and embark on the journey of developing yourself, your abilities and talents, and your ambitions to their fullest potential.
The event is tailored for young artists, or older ones who are just starting out and are not so established, and will elaborate on the skills they need to grow their practice and turn it into a sustainable business or a comfortable source of income.
Seasoned creative practitioners, both foreign and local, will be sharing their expertise and guiding participants with their real-life experience, especially in terms of the opportunities and challenges that a remote, geographically unique place like Gozo presents for budding artists in an increasingly globalised, interconnected world.
The workshop will be led by Michelle Cohen and Catherine Mia Dando, and will be officially kicking off The Glasgow Effect, a community arts project inspired by Glasgow and based in Gozo.
Michelle Cohen is a Canadian-born, Glasgow-based, self-taught painter and photographer. She founded Art on Scotland – Scotland's largest art market, which she has run by herself for 8 years, in addition to having managed plenty of art shows in Glasgow.
Catherine Mia Dando is a well-known creative in Gozo, having single-handedly built Catherine Mia Designs – a successful furniture refurbishment business – from the ground up. She showcased her artistic work in her first solo exhibition in Gozo last year.
Participants will benefit from Michelle’s limited stay in Gozo to receive instruction and insights from one of Glasgow’s most respected professionals in the art scene. Participation is free of charge and open to everyone.
We look forward to seeing you there!
